Welcome to “Dear Diary”, in which I write a quick blurb from every day of this crazy life. Our days deserve to be assigned an arrangement of words, after all. How else will we remember all the beautifully mundane? Read along as I write daily for 52 weeks!

Once upon a time, this young lady named Katie lived in Africa during the Ebola crisis. When everyone else hid and cowered and fled in the face of this terrifying and highly contagious disease, she stayed. I watched from a distance through social media how she would care for orphaned children, oftentimes entering ebola-ridden homes to bring necessary care. Not only that, she literally DANCED her way through it. So often, she would gather people for dance parties in the midst of unfathomable hardship. She was joy embodied, defiantly LIVING in the face of the fear that had crippled most.
I’m not sure why I thought of her today, but I did. For a long while. For much of my life, I have experienced sickness anxiety. She demonstrated the opposite of how I would have behaved. She chose love and fearlessness over and over again.
Today, I have experienced MUCH release from my own anxieties. Yes, I still have room for more surrender, but I believe she has played a part in my own journey to freedom.
And I have to say, our own daughter reminds me of Katie. Wow, how beautiful!

I got home pretty late and was quite tired, but ended up laying on the couch watching the strawberry moon slowly slide across the southern horizon. How could I go to sleep with such a beautiful thing taking place?

I wore my t-shirt that says, “More spaghetti less upsetti” today. I don’t wear t-shirts often (I mean, outside of bedtime), but when I do, they must say something fantastic while declaring an important life motto.

Our church:
Full of life and movement….a whole bunch of wildly imperfect people in community with each other worshipping an incomprehensibly perfect God who is so very generous and kind to us.

Today our nephew Micah married his beautiful and sweet bride Abi.
A standout moment for me was when Lincoln (Micah’s older brother) gave one of the sweetest, purest speeches after dinner. Those two are something special. They always have been. What a fantastic thing it is to see them living life with Christ together as the loyal, best friends they are. ENDLESSLY PROUD.
Also, Libby and Rachel, if you’re reading this, dancing with you two was one of my favorite parts of the day! I love you both!

Can I just please go to a quaint little village in the south of France for like a month where I can ride a bike to pick up the daily loaf of bread and read a book by an old fireplace and wear my skirts in peace without people being all like, “you’re always so dressed up….”?

I had a dream my eyebrows were made of asparagus.
So there’s that.
